150k+ federal employees left under the deferred resignation program. SSA is overwhelmed, wait times are up, offices are shuttered, and millions risk delays in benefits. Cutting expertise doesn’t save money, it hurts real people. More from @centeronbudget.bsky.social http://bit.ly/4o7gXaq

Trump & Republicans have control of the White House & Congress, but still can't pass a budget & refuse to negotiate.

Our paychecks, healthcare, & schools are NOT bargaining chips. Congress needs to stop the games & do their jobs.

Tell your rep: REJECT the #TrumpShutdown.

The labor market is showing clear signs of weakness: 4 months of slow job growth, unemployment at 4.3%, and wage growth is slowing. Black workers & young people are being hit hardest. Not a recession—yet—but these are concerning trends. https://cepr.net/publications/september-2025-jobs-preview/

Wind and solar are the cheapest energy we have. EVs under $10k and battery storage make renewables practical right now. Yet Trump urges more oil and gas as US costs. Affordability is clean energy, from @deanbaker13.bsky.social ; http://bit.ly/4q18JCq

Fun fact: Adding a $1K out-of-pocket cap to traditional #Medicare would cost $44B. #MedicareAdvantage overpayments? $84B annually. We could literally improve traditional Medicare for HALF what we're wasting on private insurance middlemen. Policy is about priorities.
Can We Just Admit that We're Wasting Money on Medicare Advantage?
Medicare Advantage overpayments cost taxpayers billions. As oversight stalls, is it time to admit traditional Medicare is the more efficient path?

In 2025, teachers are paid nearly 27% LESS than others with the same education. That's the LARGEST gap on record since the late 1970s. Adjusted for inflation, teachers actually earn less today than a DECADE ago. Closing this gap is essential for our schools’ future. @epi.org

90% of #Medicare beneficiaries live where 1-2 insurers dominate. These companies game the system through "upcoding" - making patients appear sicker to get higher payments. Meanwhile, seniors get stuck with limited doctor networks.

"The teacher pay penalty reached a record high in 2024"

Latest in a long series from @ceprdc.bsky.social economist Sylvia Allegretto, in a joint report with @epi.org.

A line chart titled "Average weekly wages of public school teachers and other college graduates ($2024), 1979–2024." The chart displays two trend lines. The top line, for "Other college grads," shows a steady increase from $1,580 in 1979 to $2,361 in 2024. The bottom line, for "Public school teachers," shows a much flatter trajectory, starting at $1,219 in 1979 and ending at $1,447 in 2024. The gap in weekly wages between the two groups widens substantially over the period shown. The source is cited as the Economic Policy Institute and CEPR.

We have the resources to fix this. The question is whether we value education enough to pay teachers what they're worth.

Many students today forgo a teaching career because teacher pay continually falls further behind that of other careers. Is it any wonder we have teacher shortages and recruitment crises?
