Bath's cognitive dissonance on Jane Austen is weird. It's barely more than a few weeks since the Bath establishment was falling over itself to sacrifice her Bath legacy inc iconic green views she loved on the bonfire of the Rec development by a sinisterly secretive overseas-controlled developer.
In Parliament, I spoke about the legacy of Jane Austen, famous Bath resident & praised the Jane Austen Centre for preserving & promoting her legacy.
But in 2024 only 5% of GCSE pupils studied a woman author. We must do more to ensure girls are represented in the literature they study.

The number of people who die while trying to seek sanctuary here.

We are outraged and deeply distressed that armed federal agents came onto our campus—making arrests on the very ground where, in 1942, Japanese American families were forced to board buses bound for concentration camps. It was a deliberate act of provocation and intimidation.

When the inevitable accident happens BANES, Avon & Somerset Police & Bath Rugby will all chorus in unison that "Nobody could possibly have foreseen this" & it will be swept under the capacious carpet with all the other entirely foreseeable incidents that "nobody could possibly have foreseen".
With >100 victims swept under the carpet of yday's news it's disturbingly unsurprising the Rec stadium applicant just carries on refusing to address the existing matchday turkey shoot on & around Pulteney Bridge - & wants to send vastly more pedestrians into the chaos of distracted matchday traffic.
