Despite we got some hail in spring when all these folks were blooming, the fleshy fruit yield so far looks excellent: Euonymus europaeus, Prunus spinosa, Rhamnus cathartica and Viburnum lantana.

¿Alguna idea @cmhmaliani.bsky.social y/o @curromolina.bsky.social? Muchas gracias.

Two more butterflies spotted this weekend: Limenitis reducta (on the trail) and Cynthia cardui on Mantisalca salmantica.

Yesterday, I was also lucky enough to spot several beautiful butterflies like Argynnis paphia on Rubus gr. ulmifolius or Brenthis hecate on Prunella vulgaris.

Zerynthia rumina, the favourite butterfly of my children this spring. ;-)

Finally, this beautiful narrow endemic to central Spain in full bloom, Centaurea toletana.

Some bee orchids from central Spain: Ophrys speculum, O. scolopax and O. lutea.

Anacamptis morio subsp. champagneuxii, Ornithogalum with a beautiful visitor (any suggestion, @cmhmaliani.bsky.social? Thanks!), Tulipa sylvestris subsp. australis and Pyrus bourgaeana. The latest is widespread on the red sandstones where recruits well, but I have rarely seen it bearing fruits...

I spotted big groups of European bee-eaters at the beginning of May in the River Tajuña headwaters.

At last, I have found some time to go through the pictures I have take during our excursions this spring. :-) A beautiful bumblebee, Bombus cf. pascuorum (please, confirm @cmhmaliani.bsky.social and @curromolina.bsky.social), on a blooming apple tree at the beginning of May.

During the Easter break, we also enjoyed a family bike ride to watch our beloved vultures: the resident griffon vultures (Gyps fulvus), and the just arrived summer visitor, the Egyptian vulture (Neophron percnopterus).

Blooming is a bit delayed in central Iberia this year after many weeks in a row of persistent rainfall. Over the Easter break I managed to spot some of the earliest flowering species in my region: Biscutella atropurpurea, Narcissus triandrus pallidulus, Prunus spinosa and Noccaea stenoptera.

One of my favourite pollen types in Greece is Loranthus europaeus. This is a bad picture, but one can still see its main features: concave-triangular outline and the three colpi (slit-like apertures) that join in the centre of the grain (syncolpate). Good indicator of the local presence of oaks.

Carpinus betulus pollen was something quite exotic when a western Mediterranean palynologist like me until c. 7 years ago moved to study sites eastwards. Now I am very familiar with it but I still feel happy when I find a nice one!!

Excited to start reading "La muerte de los bosques" by F. Lloret right after finishing the wonderful "Tree story" by V. Trouet. It seems that I am caught in the forest reading season ;-)
