Our 3rd manifesto ask is to use planning legislation to rule out new renewables and storage developments that don’t provide shared ownership or community benefit funds at a fair level. ⚖️

Planning decisions on projects up to 50MW are devolved, and Scotland should be using these powers. 🧑‍⚖️📜

Thank you to @eastlothiancouncil.bsky.social for considering ways to make the energy transition a just transition for communities.

As Cllr Lynn Jardine said: "too often the financial rewards flow to large companies & distant stakeholders. For a just transition to be meaningful that must change."
Calls for East Lothian residents living near wind farms to get free electricity
A council leader has said people who live near wind farms should be given free electricity as he backed calls for an overhaul of rules surrounding renewable development.

Thank you @alynsmith.bsky.social ! ❤️ Looking forward to meeting with you soon to discuss this.

There’s some really exciting, practical and achievable aims in here. Community ownership of energy resources is transformative, we’ve seen that across Stirlingshire and we need *a lot more* of it. This is an important bit of work from @cescotland.bsky.social 💪

📣We’ve published our manifesto recommendations for the 2026 Scottish Parliament elections!

It’s clear that our energy system isn’t working for ordinary people. Communities must have more influence, ownership and feel more benefit from our energy system.

This would be a game-changing policy. Scotland could progressively transfer all renewables into public ownership by transferring assets at end-of-lease to public energy companies (just like Scotland did with ScotRail).

Putting them into community hands would be particularly empowering.

Ask #2 is to use public land to boost community energy. 📈

When new leases are issued for repowering windfarms, community energy companies should have ‘first dibs’.

We could meet the target (👇) by transferring 1/3rd of the renewables on public forestry land into community hands.

Our first ask is a target: 🎯 1GW of community-owned energy by 2030.

That's 10x higher than now. Ambitious? Yes, but achievable.
@rescoop.eu say "In EU countries with such goals in place, clear policy signals and investor confidence has led to significant growth of the community energy movement.”

Great to see @michaelshanksmp.co.uk visiting one of our members Callander Community Hydro this past weekend!

A dreich day means lots of water flowing through Callander Community Hydro - generating clean power for the grid and money directly into the local community.

This is the sort of project we want to see much more of - power owned by and benefiting local communities.
