Nevertheless, it is also necessary for judges to possess the moral and epistemic virtues that ensure their impartiality, properly understood. This requirement has implications, for the training and selection of judges and for the composition of the judiciary.

Fernando will explore the traditional ideas about judicial impartiality and the simple fact that judges obviously see and are aware of the parties involved in each legal proceeding. In his paper, Fernando will argue that this is also normatively desirable.
