Get in ultrasound researchers, we're making this Blue Sky thing happen. I'm making an ultrasound researchers starter pack, and I'm not stopping until I get 150 of you on there:

Fun fact: the "No More Mosquitoes" sample is from Sharon, Lois and Bram's elephant show!

As an imaging scientist, I will never type the word "imagine" without typing "imaging" first.

Hello, I'm a professional author and I can never spell permanently or camouflage on the first try.

Come, make me feel better and share your nemesis words.

Yo that album is amazing. What does 1982 refer to? Release time frame is def late 90s, early 2000s Warp Records

"Chladni figures" from 1787 created by German physicist and musician Ernst Chladni, showing nodal patterns made by drawing a bow along the edge of a sand-covered plate. More here: https://publicdomainreview.org/collection/chladni-figures-1787

The state of America: Cyndi Lauper changes the lyrics to Girls Just Want to Have Fun to Girls Just Want Fundamental Rights.....

As someone who still listens front-to-back, I think this is on you rather than the music, but maybe that's why you have time to decipher NIH funding policies and trends for us :-)

Oh yah -- I listened to "The New Abnormal" at least 100 times from front to back during pandemic lockdowns

Yes and "spin up" is a close second for me.

"Yo -- just gotta spin up a little extra compute for the product launch!" 🤮

Is this the bar we're holding our tech entrepreneurs to these days? It seems difficult to spend trillions and *not* transform the world. Hit me up, I can do it for 1/10th of that.

Planning to resubmit something sitting at 9%. Makes me want to look for another job.

As a fan of the em and en dashes prior to the explosion of its use with ChatGPT, I'm conflicted. One one hand, I am happy others will now use this helpful punctuation; however, I don't like that people view it as a signal that GPT was the source of the writing.

Hehe, part of what makes it a great band name :-)

You can search "history of industrial music" to satisfy your curiosity!

Writing 'Hope all is well!' in an email has felt increasingly awkward lately. Like, no, all is clearly not well, but what am I supposed to do, write 'Hope things are medium okay'?

Ugh yeah ... Even in predictable times, this process often ends with soft commitments and memos of understanding that can be rescinded. On the other hand, funding new PIs still seems super important and like a high-value investment

totally -- I already feel like I strain pre-award folks with all of my failed and resubmitted applications, which is nowhere close to this number
cfcaskey.bsky.social
"... 40 distinct applications in a single application submission round" is wild!

The 6 / year limit seems like a lot, but I can see immediate changes in decision-making for soft money folks who have ~3 simultaneous R01-level grants (e.g. really consider those multi-PI apps...)

This could for sure play a role, and generally the manuscript / grant treadmill we are all on certainly does. It can be hard to justify spending 2-3 hours reviewing a paper when you're trying to get grant applications and papers out the door.

Agree, but it's an ecosystem problem. Unless I'm especially well connected in a field I usually get about a 10-15% take rate on reviews so I need to invite 20+ people to get the required number. A majority of people who write papers don't do their part reviewing.

Finally fulfilled my dream of owning a 1952 Topps card with this Larry Doby gem. Sharing it on Jackie Robinson Day because Doby was the second African American in MLB, following Robinson. Both legends broke barriers, inspiring us toward equality and inclusion. #JackieRobinsonDay #LarryDoby
