The elimination of USAID is a moral atrocity and all involved made a choice to enable, and then lie about, ending the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in the world.
MAE SOT, Thailand (AP) - Mohammed Taher clutched the lifeless body of his 2-year-old son and wept. Ever since his family's food rations stopped arriving at their internment camp in Myanmar in April, the father had watched helplessly as his once-vibrant baby boy weakened, suffering from diarrhea and begging for food.
On May 21, exactly two weeks after Taher's little boy died, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio sat before Congress and declared: "No one has died" because of his government's decision to gut its foreign aid program. Rubio also insisted: "No children are dying on my watch."
That, Taher says, "is a lie."

I was at a Paul Rodriguez stand-up in 1992 and remember he asked the same thing. Why were white people who hated Latinos so eager to look more like them?

Alaskans aren’t prepared for how catastrophic the Trump healthcare cuts are going to be. In addition to making the ACA marketplace unaffordable for thousands of Alaskan families, it will raise premiums for everyone and probably shutter clinics and hospitals.

A frustrated Eisenhower knew but could not publicly say that secret photographs from U-2 spy planes and new CORONA photoreconnaissance satellites proved that no such gap existed. In fact, the United States had a six to one advantage in ICBMs (12 versus 2) and a small lead in SLBMs (32 versus 30).
A declassified black and white early CORONA satellite photograph showing the Baikonur Cosmodrome, the Soviet Union’s first missile flight test and space launch facility, located in Kazakhstan near the village of Tyuratam, some 1,300 miles southeast of Moscow. A rocket test stand and flame trench are at the lower right.

I have such a clear memory of this song, Jan 1, 1986. Sitting at my desk in a Wisconsin farmhouse, clear sunshine and bitter cold outside. Hand writing a junior high report on evolutionary biology, this song came on the radio

There's a really nice explanation (with clear graphics) in this @quantamagazine.bsky.social article of why most molecules in the atmosphere (oxygen & nitrogen) don't act as greenhouse gases, but a lot of the far less numerous ones (like carbon dioxide and methane) do. A great teaching aid :)
The Quantum Mechanics of Greenhouse Gases | Quanta Magazine
Earth’s radiation can send some molecules spinning or vibrating, which is what makes them greenhouse gases. This infographic explains how relatively few heat-trapping molecules can have a planetary ef...

Our Kosovo rescue cat Violet looking out the window of our Anchorage house to see a moose sticking her snout near the window #adorable
Silhouette of a cat looking out a window into a snowy front year, with the front nose of a large moose visible in the left side of the window. A family of 3 camped out in our yard ALL FRICKING DAY. But it was early 2021, and we had nowhere to go, the university campus was still shut down.

Heya #EnergySky! Exciting to see the recent momentum on here.

Energy Twitter was great, but something we can improve on with v2 is to have a broader set of voices from outside the US - where the fight on climate will be won or lost.

A very early, incomplete start to this ->

Agreed. Unless one is producing concertina wire or tear gas, the US is a bad investment
