I'll forever love this city and what it's meant to me – a minority-majority ethnohub (65% Asian according to the Census) that has stood the tests of time in preserving culture and allowing the diaspora an opportunity to thrive despite all odds. #csudhMSW501

Here's a selfie of me at Cascades Park (the b/w pic was taken a few days before the Great Depression) – which was built in the 1920's to bill Monterey Park as the "next big city." It's now a cherished local landmark where anyone can come to soak up some sun rays and relax. #csudhMSW501

Here are some shots from the Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library. I grew up going here and didn't know that they had a dedicated history room with artifacts/docs spanning back to 1916. #csudhMSW501

It was a great experience to visit the Monterey Park Historical Museum and learn the history of the city and it's importance to the Asian diaspora.

I didn't know that MPK was one of the few cities that allowed Japanese Americans to repurchase land after WWII and internment... #csudhMSW501

In the aftermath of Monterey Park shootings in 2023 at Star Ballroom Dance Studio, the community came together to support each other, activate resources and grieve. Here is a video from outside the shuttered Studio – may the 11 victims rest in peace.
