Apparently U of Alberta has this fossil?! Those of us who have worked on trying to reconstruct North American Dromaeosaurs would have had our jaws drop if we knew there was an articulated mummy of Saurornitholestes!!!
I hope that it is OK that I repost these photos that I think I found on X.

This must have been the inspiration for Wes Anderson to have a character who is “breeding Dalmatian mice.”

Another snow shadow by @sirinthada.bsky.social ! The sunlight caused the tin dusting of snow to turn directly into water vapor. But in the shadows, the snow persisted.

I just read that, in the 19th century, hunters used to go to Brooklyn to shoot “high holders.” A bird with several names, the Northern Flicker! They tasted strong, from the formic acid in the ants they feed on.

I am reading more books, and unplugging more. This one, by #MannyHoward is a real page turner. He accepts a challenge from his editor to try to live on what he could grow in his yard in Brooklyn. To do so, he had to turn to intensive urban farming, with mixed results.

#MarkZuckerberg This is the male role model. Men should ally with and promote the women who have the best ideas. Men should stick up for those who are ignored and pushed aside.

2/2 2024 there were:
10 homicides in the subway, 377 in NYC overall.
577 felony assaults in the subway, 29,471 in NYC overall.
Adjusting for hours spent, the homicide rate on the street is more than 2x, and felony assault is 3x the rates we see in the subway. So, moving police is a misguided idea.

1/2 Conservative media have had a field day, sensationalizing violent crimes in the New York City subways. The Mayor and Governor, for years, have been moving more police to the subway. But here's the thing: crime rates are MUCH higher outside of the subway than inside. www.nyc.gov/site/nypd/ne...

This happened a few blocks from us yesterday morning! No one was hurt. The driver says he was trying to get around a double parked car. Maybe there was ice?

I watched The Outsider. Now, imagine my surprise when this series, with the main action set in Georgia and Tennessee, digresses to an incident in the Bronx: at 5602 Broadway, McGoo's Pub (looks like formerly, now), a location I pass every day on my way to work!

(2/2) What about hydrides from other abundant elements? PH3 and H2S burn well but are poisonous. But magnesium hydride has been investigated extensively as a fuel. On contact with water it releases hydrogen, which you can readily burn. And it forms magnesium oxide which absorbs CO2 from the air!

1/2)We can store solar energy as ammonia, then burn the ammonia as a carbon-free fuel. There are several problems with this, though. One is that it only burns at like 900°, and it burns much better if you add some petroleum. Another is that it forms nitrogen oxides which are dangerous pollutants.

These are amazing artwork by Jessie Nucifora (available at Kung Fu Merch). They are posters for the Magnetic Fields tour. Now, some of them, I instantly got the references to songs from the album.
Are there any more song references that I missed?

Fantastic. So they are demanding that this person, who has a penis and wants to have sex with women, use the women’s room. Genius.
