I still struggle to see how that makes practical sense roster-wise, unless Paredes is going to be the everyday second baseman. the thought of “giving guys days and rest” is fine, but are you really going to pay ~$30 million to two guys who aren’t going to play every day?

Using MLBTR's projections, the Astros have already cut $10 million in projected payroll by parting ways with Chas McCormick, Luis Garcia and Ramón Urías. They have 13 remaining arbitration-eligible players. Friday is the deadline to tender them contracts.
