Look I know it’s not typical for me, but come on

I feel like it’s a pretty common complaint about that movie, tbh. For me I pretty much gave up after that, only renting movies if I heard later they were good and standalone.

It really frustrated me because I had been waiting for the emotional and thematic follow up to the winter solider and we just didn’t get that. It made me realize that the mcu as a whole just would never work for me the way I wanted it to.

Haha no worries. I just remember sitting in the theater during opening week realizing I was watching a sequel to the Captain America movies, a series that I really liked, that was in fact, not a Captain America movie but a sequel to a bunch of other things I didn’t care about.

Exactly! Fic writing to me is a direct reflection of the original work. I wasn’t to build off the themes of it. I get why people would just do it, it’s written and it has an audience and it’s a way to get your foot in the door. But I feel like I would be cheating my own work by doing so

being less dismissive about the specific ship, I read fic to see an exploration of something that canon can’t give me, be it a character study, queer subtext or a happy ending for a character I love. If you can so easily file off the original work, what’s the point?

Like I’m seeing all these people yapping about this mlm hockey romance and I’m sure it’s well written! (Maybe) but also like… why would I read stucky fanfic in the first place, but now you want me to read stucky fanfic that doesn’t even have the in universe context of how gay those movies are

So for me my thought process with published fanfic is then like, okay, so what were you trying to say in the first place? And I think a good fic does have something to say about canon.

Not that’s there’s anything wrong with it but I personally cannot read a book I know is published fanfic. Just a mental block as someone who’s written a lot of fanfic
