Nonviolence is, in fact, working. This administration is weaker than it was a year ago. More and more of the public is becoming galvanized against it; its agents are being impeded.
Do you honestly think people in the civil rights movement and other nonviolent movements faced no violence themselves? They practiced nonviolence because it works, because the oppressor wants a shooting war, which is the war it will win

I think it comes from the sense that everyone is the same as them. "White libs can't actually BELIEVE in racial equality, because they're white. Instead, like every good member of the species homo economicus, they are motivated by pure self-interest."

I don't think it's necessarily calculated. It is just as easily explainable as a belief in simple militarized force. Aggression activated by perceived threat to dominance. Shared by leadership and people on the ground.
The explanation is as much sociological as rational.

In the end, I think it's best to say that civic nationalism is not more American than racial nationalism, but that it's just BETTER. More moral, resulting in better outcomes for everyone.

You could perhaps argue that civic nationalism has in practice revealed itself to be racial, as when ex. Teddy Roosevelt thought Chinese and Africans were incapable of democracy. Fair enough. But that is a failure which America has been slowly correcting. (Even in the face of backlash).

Unfortunately, saying "racial nationalism is un-American because it violates the founding principles" is tautological. Only civic nationalism thinks principles like freedom and equality are important.

Pointing out all the examples of racial nationalism does not make civic nationalism less important. Both visions have a claim to be truly American.

AFAIK the only legitimate objection to this proposal (minus the Greenland thing) is that middle school boys will be embarrassed by the word "virgin."
