essentially, yeah. the pigment embedded into the paper is heat sensitive.

No ink (zink short for "zero ink" - just the paper which is something like 50p a sheet on Amazon here (but you can get it cheaper elsewhere)

It's probably a Zink printer - they're thermal so don't last forever but great if you just want little fun stickers on occasion.
