In the hope that she would just give up and let him stay at home.
Not realising/knowing that she was a teacher at his kindergarten, so she had to go regardless. So it never worked for him

Reminds me of a character of mine when he was in kindergarten, sometimes when it was cold out and his mom had to get him in warm clothes before leaving, and he didn’t actually want to go to school that day.

I can just hear “I don’t care!” Play in my head looking at this.
