We invented a new game: Movie Opposites. Ended up playing it all weekend. The best pair we came up with was Mean Girls and Goodfellas.

We've been getting so many submissions! Fiction on the Web got 281 submissions in September. We published 9 stories in September. That suggests a lower acceptance rate than usual for us - just over 3%.

I've made this month's Patreon post available to everyone (not just members). It includes a merch launch offer, discussions about busy-ness, emphasis, and AI - and a free audio story: "Eating Van Gogh". www.patreon.com/posts/octobe...

Watched One Battle After Another in the cinema last week. Don't know why anybody is describing it as a dark comedy - it is NOT a comedy. It's intense. Really helps you feel how terrorising ICE raids must be in the USA right now.

A couple of reader comments from Monday's Fiction on the Web story: "I didn’t expect any of the reveals! They were so heartbreaking." "I have to say, I really enjoyed reading this story, it was really great and caught my attention from start to finish." www.fictionontheweb.co.uk/2025/09/enzo...

Some of y'all might know I'm obsessed with board games. The most interesting and original game I've played recently? Vantage. A co-operative exploration game set on an alien planet in which you discover more about the world every time you play. boardgameprices.co.uk/item/show/73...

You know The Running Man? The 1982 Stephen King story that's been adapted into films? In which the world economy is in shambles and the United States has become a totalitarian dystopia? The events of that book were set in the year 2025. Huh.

Been watching Pantheon series 2 on Netflix. Recommended if you like sophisticated sci-fi that's set only a moment in the future.

Fiction on the Web is one of the very few magazines that offers free feedback on every single submission. You can see others that do on the FISH list: www.fictionontheweb.co.uk/p/fish-list.... (look for the "Always gives feedback" column in the raw data)

According to Duotrope, Fiction on the Web responds to submissions in 4 days, on average. The truth is that we often respond in 1 or 2 days - if it takes longer that means your story passed the first hurdle and is being read by more people.

Reader comments on Friday's story about a world-weary comics artist: "Quietly dramatic with a nice flow to the story-telling." "It’s a dramatic tale! The narrative voice is terrific. The plot is surreal, in a good way." www.fictionontheweb.co.uk/2025/09/frie...

I have the paperback. It’s kind of huge - I didn’t realise when I ordered it! But I’m getting through to quickly, it’s fun to read.
