PIP legislation + my concerns about:

1. Impact on service personnel + veterans harmed on duty (Armed Forces Covenant)

2. Claimed justification

Here's the email I've just sent my MP (Mel Stride) and Ministers at #DWP and #MOD

Yep, I’d love to see an African lion doing this too!

But aren’t conveyancing firms excited about the resultant increase in the number of clients (albeit mostly confused new ones)?!

Love it!! Congratulations Neil. 🙏

Groundbreaking! The UK Armed Forces has sworn in its first-ever humanist pastoral carer – Dr Neil Weddell. This means thousands of non-religious service personnel will have access to like-minded pastoral support that genuinely reflects their values and worldview. 🧵

“free Motability car” 🤦‍♂️😤

And all the rest… 😟

Thanks for highlighting that, which I’d missed. 🙏

And I hadn’t even noticed that it goes all the way down to East Prawle

Anyone who’s tried travelling south of Kingsbridge knows that is a ludicrous business development area! 🤦‍♂️

The most illogically arranged freeport area I’ve seen

That north eastern bump is only a few miles from my house and is such a remote and poorly supplied area that freeport benefits would be non-existent

Very true.

I’m not arguing to remove the protected landscapes protection.

But there is a lot more authorities can do to satisfy NP purposes, nurture the environment and support locals and businesses.

The loose concept of “growth” always makes me wince a little!

And I’m highly sceptical of the claim of one interviewee in the article that “there was no evidence that the duty to enhance the parks was stopping growth”.

That is, anecdotally, personally and as a former parish councillor, not the experience of my area

We want to manage our site for environmental benefit and Dartmoor’s national park designation hinders our best doing so
charlierad.bsky.social
But, much like land being graded in terms of flood zones, protected landscapes could also be graded or a scale used to designate particular aspects of critical importance (yes, landscape designations partially provide this but their interpretation is subjective)
charlierad.bsky.social
I’d be happy for our non-national park land to be compelled to apply some protected landscapes legislative requirements (there is a bit of this already, eg outlying land site impact affecting national park views)
charlierad.bsky.social
More reflections.

The National Park protection of half our land compels us to manage our site on our land outside the park - either steep hillside or in a flood plain

This limits site options, requires extensive preparatory work, and hinders our ability to better manage our site environmentally

(unless you’re a farmer in which case it seems that most of what you want to do is fair play)

While acknowledging that locals are frustrated by DNPA not making more use of the discretion available to them and working collaboratively to find a best solution for all - mostly due to DNPA cutbacks massively hindering the service they can provide
