Some very important lobbying of Father Christmas for lots of presents for all the children in Warrington North, in Winwick this evening!

Earlier in the week I visited the Chancellor for a pre-briefing in No 11, on measures I have been lobbying for as part of today's Budget. Taken together, and as the distributional analysis shows, this is a Budget that is rooted in fairness - see more thoughts here:

On the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month, we will remember them.

On Brianna's 19th birthday, this morning I joined @cheshirepcc.bsky.social and the Brianna Ghey Legacy Project Phone Free Education campaign at the launch at Jodrell Bank of a new £150k initiative to make Cheshire the first county in the UK where ALL state high schools have lockable phone pouches.

Today at PMQs, I asked the Deputy Prime Minister to pay tribute to the staff on our railways - who are often maligned in the press - for the vital role they play in keeping us all safe, from averting suicides on the rail network to dealing with emergencies like we have seen this week in Huntingdon.

New specs arrived today *insert joke about political vision here* 🤓

A really moving afternoon at The Warrington Wolves Community Foundation charity screening of Adam Hills: Grow Another Foot to raise funds and awareness for men’s mental health and suicide prevention through the foundation's initiative Ahead Of The Game.

Happy Halloween! I hope you've had a suitably spook-tacular time 🎃✨👻

Lovely to see the community getting in the spooky season spirit with so many amazing decorations and costumes, I've had a fang-tastic evening after work popping in to a few different events to say hello and catch up with friends!

A brilliant afternoon at the Warrington Cup Final with the juniors teams from Woolston Rovers, Culcheth Eagles, Latchford Giants & Crosfields - doing their clubs, their families and our community proud 🏆

Thank you to Warrington Wolves for use of the HJ stadium, and supporting the grassroots game!

A lovely autumnal Warrington parkrun this morning with Cllr Robin Frith! 🍁🍂🏃‍♀️

Managed exactly 60 seconds slower than my PB despite the cold I've been trying to shake off all week, which does suggest all the exercise I've been roped into recently is having a positive effect haha

Yesterday was the first statement and questions in Parliament regarding proposed plans for a Digital ID system.

I understand concerns people have both about civil liberties and data security. My main issue is that I'm not sure yet what question the proposals as they stand are the answer to.

As the Warrington Masters Swimming Club squad begin their training taper ahead of the @swimengland.bsky.social Masters National Championships in Sheffield later this month, it was lovely to join them in the pool for their Sunday session today! 🏊‍♀️

Some assorted scenes from a lovely few days off coinciding with the festival of Sukkot. In Judaism, Sukkot is known as "Z'man Simchateinu" (the season of rejoicing) and we are literally commanded to be happy- that's not always easy but this week it has been 🍋🌿💃

A joy to join Warrington Hongkongers at the Mahjong competition in Fearnhead, as part of the celebrations for the Mid-Autumn festival!

I've wanted to learn Mahjong for years and after some very patient tuition I think I'm getting the hang of it, though I won't be coming for the trophy for a while 😂

A moving vigil for the Heaton Park synagogue today. I headed over together with Cllr Mo Hussain to stand with them - both in our roles as MP and Mayor, and as Jews and Muslims together - united in our determination to stand against terror and stand up for our common humanity.

Hate will never win ❤️

A High Court ruling forces a firm linked to Tory peer Michelle Mone to repay £122m for a PPE contract breach.

PPE Medpro put NHS staff and patients in danger with substandard kit whilst lining their own pockets with taxpayers’ money at a time of national crisis.

Justice served ⚖️

There's always some interesting protests taking place around party conference, but I think this is the one I have the most questions about this year...
October 1, 2025 at 2:17 PM
But the speech of the conference was undoubtedly Margaret Aspinall, who spoke from the heart about what it means to finally have the Hillsborough Law introduced to Parliament for all the families like hers who have fought for so long for justice, accountability and change 🙏

It was great to see Warrington name-checked in the Prime Minister's speech, as a place drawing in significant tech investment both from the UK-US £150bn inward investment agreement as part of the state visit, and the new AI data centre plans unveiled at the Warrington Business Conference this month.

There's been quite a few big announcements - and as we head towards the Budget, it's been helpful to be part of so many different panels and discussions around the things we still need to see from the new Government.

Home after a busy few days in Liverpool for Labour Party Conference!

My personal highlight definitely playing in the War of the Roses rugby league game, and scoring a try for my (historic) county - even if the trophy went to Yorkshire - alongside legends of the game like Adrian Morley 🌹
