The only logical explanation for Trump wanting Greenland, when the US already has military & mining access under treaty, is that he wanted to use it to bargain something with Putin. Something so secret he willingly made a fool of himself for it & wrecked alliances for it.

If you go to them and say "Actually America is bad and you're bad for liking it," they're going to ignore you. If you say "America is a promise and is good & we have to fight to live up to it, let's punch Nazis like we did in WWII" then more of them will join you, which we need to stop the fascists

What if Canada, for the sake of balance, said it was only going to take brown people while the US takes only white ones? We're looking for doctors, nurses, engineers and the like, and geez, the best imported ones for decades have mostly been brown.

Yes, the US already has access, through the 1951 treaty, to put bases and mines on Greenland, so no need for HIS country to own it. But if his objective in owning it is in giving it to RUSSIA as part of some private "deal," it makes perfect sense for him to say he needs it for national security.
