Photographing the Milky Way has to be one of my favourite subjects.

Seeing the sheer number of stars combining together into the milky glow just makes me feel both insignificant and significant at the same time.

Isn't it just awe inspiring?

The golden Milky Way is clearly visible beautifully above the dark skies of the Sahara desert in Morocco. The clearest skies I’ve ever experienced.

The Milky Way, andromeda and a shooting star are visible from the banks of loch Morlich in the cairngorms national park. The ancient pine trees can be seen growing on the beach in the dark.

The Milky Way glowed through the delicate pink of the Aurora northern lights in the cairngorms national park in August 2024. Such a unique and beautiful scene, one I’ll remember for a long time.

Before the sun had risen, the ghostly white mist sat low in the Tuscan valleys, as the sky above was lit bright orange. I just love getting out early to capture moments like this!

I cannot help myself imagining these trees as a married couple. Decades spent together watching the days pass, the seasons pass & the years pass. Alone on this small hill, overlooking some of the most beautiful scenery in Europe, if not the world.

In the beautiful Tuscan rolling hills, this group of cypress trees grow together in a ring. It almost looks symbolic, particularly as captured here at sunrise in the mist.

The most famous "ring of trees" in Tuscany is the Cipressi di San Quirico d'Orcia (Cypresses of San Quirico d'Orcia), a distinctive circle of cypress trees located in the Val d'Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its scenic Renaissance agricultural landscapes.

Here it is captured from a drone, at sunrise, with mist sitting above. A truly amazing sight.

I still can’t quite believe my photograph “The Long Shadow” won the Nature category of the Drone Photo Awards. The ceremony was in Siena last week, in what was an incredible photography festival.

It’s been a pretty surreal week!
