To play Devil's advocate, once all Bitcoin are mined, the power resources required can and will lessen. The network will still need nodes, and will reward with transaction fees, but there won't be block rewards in the traditional sense.

Yeah. I think you're right. It's not impossible to go paper free, but impractical in a lot of situations.
