Teaching someone else's 5 year old how to whistle is a war crime.

Psyching myself up to spend the next couple of days hearing about how there's no way to prevent gun violence in schools and the same people clutching their pearls when it comes to the putting down of a health insurance CEO.

Tonight, between the hours of 8pm and 330am, the OR nursing team, anesthesia provide1rs, and I saved three lives. Amazingly there wasn't a single contribution made by an employee of a health insurance company. When they call themselves healthcare providers it makes me furious.

One of the things I find hardest in parenting is trying to react well when my kid is suffering the consequences of their bad decision making. I want them to learn but I also want to take away their hurt. Not for the weak of heart.

Surgical training must be brutal because the diseases are brutal. They do not care about our feelings. The consequences of bad judgement and poor technique are frequently tangible, immediate, permanent, corporal, and existential. I cannot train people to do this comfortably.

If you thought Dr. Fauci was peddling quack treatments for profit in an unethical manner just wait until you get a load of Dr. Oz.

Working over holidays stinks. But it could be a lot worse. I could be the patient.
