it's like how movies love to show someone having a panic attack or freaking out and getting slapped hard in the face and brought back to their senses. this makes for exciting or funny visual storytelling but in real life it is very possibly the worst conceivable response to an actual panic attack.

first of all, assume everyone (who isn't a bad actor like an abuser or a fascist etc) is a reliable expert in their own experience and their own life. no "harsh truth" you can think of is actually something they haven't thought already a thousand times. hearing from you TOO can only cause them pain.
