I've decided to pause Indie Hacker Diaries for a couple of months while I get some projects shipped for @cheatcodeco.bsky.social.

In this final episode before the pause, I share some thoughts on why I'm taking a break:

Raise your hand if you hate doing stuff you don't want to do 🖐️

In this week's Indie Hacker Diaries, I share how I ran into this hurdle over the past week, documenting how to use Mod (my CSS framework) across a range of web development frameworks.

For the first Indie Hacker Diaries of the year, something that's been on my mind is how I'm seeing developers—new and experienced—start to rely solely on AI for writing code.

Sharing an example, I explain why it's important to still understand the code the AI generates:

For those used to reading/listening, Indie Hacker Diaries will be back next Friday (1/17).

Didn't have much to talk about this week and wanted to focus on finishing up some other projects ✌️

Never underestimate the value of a prototype.

It can help you to self-validate an idea and approach without full commitment, relatively fast.

"Does this work the way I think it does in my head?"

A prototype will give you an answer.

Today's my birthday, but it also happens to be David Bowie's birthday.

Early on in my career, I came across an interview with David Bowie where he shares some wisdom about creativity. That wisdom has stuck with and guided me ever since.

Workaholic? I speak from experience: don't run yourself into the ground. No matter how much you think you have to keep going, make a point to stop, rest, and breathe.

In the final Indie Hacker Diaries of 2024, I share a quick story about not heeding this advice:

I came up against some negative feedback about my JavaScript framework, Joystick, this week.

Having been here in the past—and made mistakes with how I handled it—I decided to share what I've learned and how you can take tough feedback in stride, too.

New on the CheatCode YouTube channel.

This is for serious indie hackers/builders only.

It will inspire you. It will challenge you. But it will also plant invaluable seeds to help you shift your thinking and actually ship your ideas.
Starting a new series on YouTube. Something I think is important for serious indie hackers/builders.

I'm calling it "The Path."

I'm in the fabled "last 10%" of my work on Mod (the CSS framework I've been sharing screenshots of here).

For this week's Indie Hacker Diaries, I wanted to discuss the last 10% problem and a solution I've relied on to kill the anxiety of shipping.

Despite the majority of the world chasing the next dollar, this will always be the modus operandi for CheatCode.
Building great software really comes down to one question...

"Is this the best I/we can do?"

If the answer is no, iterate. Invest the time to do it right or don't do it at all.

Just uploaded this week's Indie Hacker Diaries podcast.

The topic? Navigating the algorithmic nightmare of social media and leveraging networks like Bluesky that are more friendly to small business and solopreneurs.

Working on getting a basic charting library together for Mod, using #d3 behind the scenes.

I've only used d3 a couple of times, but it's a really impressive library. You can accomplish a lot with a relatively small amount of code.

Using #claude to help me generate examples of what I'm after.
