People look to “fix” autism and nothing to integrate people with autism into normative living without them being savants or gold star workers. And even then…they’re expected to push through experiencing meltdowns, overstimulation, entangled language, sensory pain, social manipulation and etc.

I remember understanding how socially lost i had always been in 5th grade. It still follows me today. I remember essentially going through what people would call ABA therapy through the lack of knowledge of neurodivergence in poc parenting.

I remember growing up and being called an indigo child. I remember teachers not knowing how to place me. My teachers from kindergarten to 4th grade begging my mom to get me evaluated, and in 5th grade my teacher asked my mom but didn’t push further because i seemed to have the “good” kind.

When i was a kid women had a rumor to not do any embryo testing because the needle would remove something from the embryo and your child would be autistic because it was missing some embryotic fluid.
