Like a molecular level Coriolis effect

Yep. All true. The balance could have tipped the other way in terms of handedness which is what fascinates me
chemscrapes.bsky.social
Nice. So possibly the properties of one hand in the presence of a random distribution lent itself towards self replication better than the other hand? Really my brain not big enough for this.
chemscrapes.bsky.social
Agree. I guess my point is - what started the journey to the left

How did nature select for one hand over another in terms of the basic building blocks of life? 3-D assemblies that may have catalysed primordial processes would still need some source of chirality that would ultimately need to have some advantage over the other. Help me folks!
chemscrapes.bsky.social
Hey #chemsky ... just had a conversation about chirality with my daughter. The conversation hasrekindled something that has kept me awake for many nights over my chemical life - what is the basis of chirality?

We had these flags made up to wave at the drivers at the fan forum today. They changed Ferrari to yesterday. So now we are on mission to somehow deliver them. A joke has turned into a bit of a tribute for Roscoe. @scuderiaferrarif1.bsky.social #singaporegp #f1
Two flags. One with the Ferrari emblem. The two Ferrari dogs are posing as the prancing horse. The other is a cartoon image of the pose with the word Fur-rari underneath it.

The better half of me is so much more betterer. #chemsky educators, if you have cool teaching research and development to share, this is the first time the conference will be in Singapore.

Well…I watched a live stream of the UN general assembly yesterday. Kinda at a loss for words. It’s all a joke right? Right?

Don’t worry. It’s a great character actor. Very well respected in the chemistry cartoon industry.

Been a while since I put pen to paper #chemsky
A molecules of acetaminophen is watching a molecules of arsole with a bad haircut and angry face the acetaminophen is frustrated and saying “God! You’re such an arsole’

The minute a personal attack is launched on the source, it loses impact. Leave the mocking and jokes to those of us who have no authority, and take it as a professional obligation to inform and educate your potential audience rather than alienate them. Just sayin’.
chemscrapes.bsky.social
I think it is really important when you put your hand up as an expert in a field to act as a counter to misinformation (eg Tylenol-Autism) - please, please, please don’t use your post to be sarcastic, belittle, or mock your potential audience. It erodes impact and makes it look personal. #chemsky

Me: "I wrote this."

Carbon dioxide: "It sucks. It's utter trash. A child could have done better. Plus your outfit is horrible. Did a cavefish dress you?"

Me, to other guy: "Who is this jerk?"

Other guy, the one who says the punchline: "That's supercritical CO₂."

This Stephen Miller is a bit of a dangerous wanker eh?

Oh yeah. He’s got a couple of puns he wants me to draw. This could be the start of succession planning

We listen to the radio in the car. Whenever the news comes on my son asks to switch. So I have hooked his Bluetooth up so he can play his Spotify more easily. Through this I have been discovering the joys of Ado - a japanese singer. He’s asked me to do an “adomantane” cartoon….up next 😊. It’s a win

For many years, I’ve found the best way to take my mind off The Horrors is to act locally and be a positive influence in my community. Making art, volunteering, picking up trash, attending a community concert or festival, etc all make it feel worthwhile to keep going.

I’m not saying don’t be informed. Just saying be more broadly informed to provide some balance

Yesterday my daughter asked me why there is so much bad in the world, referring to current events over the planet. I told her there is more good than bad - it is just that "bad" has a louder voice. So my focus at the moment is amplifying good stuff - because my kids need it. #chemsky #bluesky
A black and white sketch depicts three scenes. On the left, a person with long hair looks at their phone, and above them, text reads "ARTICLE 4, DEPT OF WAR, SHOOTING, RIOT, BOMBING, FIRE, WHITE AUSTRALIA." In the middle, a person points towards the left, saying "EXCUSE ME." On the right, a group of people stands together, and above them, text reads "DAY TO DAY GOOD STUFF."

I'm sheepish about promoting the ChemScrapes Shop here on Bluesky. So, chemscrapes.net has a subscriber function for anyone interested to subscribe to get news, updates, discount codes etc. That way #chemsky remains my community haven & I won't annoy people too much 😇
