There is plenty of advice out there on what to put in a query letter and the accompanying synopsis. These tend to be overviews, not the level of detail which really coaches you. Claire broke down the query letter and synopsis into small sections, complete with headings and word counts as a template to follow and fill in as relevant to my novel. Claire reviewed the drafts of these as part of the process. I still struggled with the synopsis, finding it really hard to reduce a wide-ranging story that took me 80,000 words to tell into 800 words. Claire's final edit on this summarised my story beautifully. I found it moving to have Claire accurately reflect back to me the story I had told. I couldn't see it that well myself; I was too close to it. Claire is a thoroughly professional editor, highly skilled and a delight to work with.

"[W]hen it comes to point of view in fiction, consistency is critical. Many of the missteps in early drafts of writing come as a result of an unjustifiable instability in point of view. That is not to say that a work of fiction can't have modulations or crescendos. But such departures have to make sense and serve a purpose, not just be for the convenience of the writer at that particular moment in the storytelling."

Useful advice from Cathy Rentzenbrink in her article 'Reading as a Writer' in The Writers' & Artists' Yearbook 2023.

The most useful way to learn about technique, the nuts-and-bolts stuff, is to look at what other writers do. What point of view have they chosen? How do they handle any time shifts? How have they selected the start and end point of their story? When I get stuck on a point like this, I will look for answers on my bookshelves. If I'm struggling with handling the dialogue when there are lots of characters present, then I'll search out dinner party scenes. At the moment, I'm considering writing a novel that happens largely in flashback, but when I tried this before I found it too hard. This time I am going to reread The Secret History by Donna Tartt, Rebecca by Daphne DuMaurier and The Confessions of Frankie Langton by Sara Collins and carefully study exactly how it is done.

I was impressed by her thoroughness, and as I went through the clean edit (with comments), her observations and recommendations were on point. It was all completed on time, too.
