I would walk down Northwest Highway past Bachman Lake. Passed a bar named “the Viking“ where my mother worked. I don’t remember the name of the street that I turned up, I did get to pass by the library so when I was dropped off at the local high school, I could pop in and check out books.

I went to skyline high school in Dallas, the first magnet school in the country. We took buses from our local high school to skyline. The walk to my school was 3 miles away. Sometimes I would get a ride from my mother, but most times she would come home drunk and I would get up and walk.
