Never. Books on fascism can be depressing as it now has happened here. Other areas still provide escape, regardless of subject, and if you're a true lover of books, you're never giving up reading.

It's quicker to read someone than to listen to someone talking. If it's a commercial during a football game or a movie, it's simpler to scan through your Bluesky than to turn on your YouTube and listen to a person talking.

It works. My Cult family are parroting anti-immigrant rhetoric, even though we have an informal no-politics rule with me. They have no clue they are puppets on a string, controlled by the 12-15 hours a day they spend with Fox and their other internet devils.

I was a kid at the local carry-out in the late 60's/maybe early 70's, buying some candy, and an old white fella came in and snarled "You better board up your windows" and he either said "H Rap Brown/Stokely Carmichael's coming to town!" I can't remember which one. Bizarre. Never forgot it.
