People that are shocked by dark themes in any VN just means they haven't played enough or stayed too sheltered because VNs are WILDLY varied in EVERY category. Even the earliest ones have some HORRIBLE implications sometimes with their themes on occasion.

You forgot Killer7 and co developed Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse which does mean it's under their wheel house for things they've done.

Star Blossom is wonderful story and it shows a fan favorite joke character (Sakura Bakushin O) in a different light aside from the jokes. It is great and with Cinderella Gray finished it is the only more serious Umamusume Manga remaining. I love them both so much.
