I don't know if that article was old or intentionally misleading. Garcia appeared before an immigration judge in 2019 and was granted "withholding of removal" status. It's a rare turn of asylum allowed him to live and work legally in the US.

I'm glad there's a fight for Mr Garcia but I feel like we've largely forgotten about the other couple of hundred of people that went along with him. They may be criminals but how about we bring them back, prove it and then not store them in a gulag?
