I grew up religious, but I never believed. People around me seemed exalted or blissful, while I was bored, unstimulated, but pretending to be into it. Praying, going to mass, it was a chore to me. I realized when I was around 16 that it meant I wasn't a believer.

Maybe if he took the traditional route of staying outside public affairs, taking care of the home and minding children, he'd be happier. Men can't handle too much at a time and it's good that they respect and obey God mandated gender roles.
