Olamide Zaccheaus practiced some handoffs from the backfield yesterday. Maybe a new wrinkle.

Zaccheaus was a running back in high school, actually sharing the field with D’Andre Swift as a teammate coincidentally. He also had 79 carries for the University of Virginia.

Cronin: Did not see Grady Jarrett or Jaquan Brisker at practice for a 2nd straight day. Cairo Santos was with the specialists but not sure what work he was able to get done. Darnell Wright was working on a side field again with a trainer.

Biggs: Referee Alex Moore and his crew will work the #Bears #Commanders game. Moore is in his 1st season as a referee after spending 3 years as an umpire.

Moore's crew leads the NFL in penalties through 5 weeks with 95 accepted and another 22 declined. 17 more total flags than any other crew.

Cronin: Colston Loveland said he feels "good" regarding the hip injury that sidelined him Week 4 vs. Raiders. It's similar to an injury he said he had at Michigan, and he wasn't concerned about it being something he'd have to deal with throughout the season.

Bears head coach Ben Johnson says they will open the 21-day practice window for RB Travis Homer and DE Austin Booker today. They are eligible to return from IR this week.

Bears CB Josh Blackwell was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week. Per Bears PR, Blackwell joins Devin Hester as the only non-kickers in Bears history to win the award multiple times (Also won it Week 18, 2024). It's the fourth Bears STPOTW award in the past 22 weeks.

Bears are not required to put out an injury report during a bye week, but LB TJ Edwards (hamstring), CB Kyler Gordon (hamstring) and TE Colston Loveland (hip) all went through at least a portion of yesterday’s practice, according to Biggs.
