have you heard about 70MM IMAX releases recently? did you perhaps notice that Chicago (the third largest city in the U.S.) didn't have a location on the list?

this is because we lost our only "true" IMAX 5 years ago!

now we are seeking support to get a new one built (or something)

I’m going to be attending the photo project tomorrow for the uptown but free idea for the @uptowntheatre.bsky.social folks if they ever find that billionaire : modernize some of the facilities while maintaining the beauty and solve Chicago’s true #IMAX problem too:

I just think the demand is beyond there. I don’t think investment cost should be a hindrance here in this market for anyone. Chicagoans will show up.

also know people that wanted to attend the showings of the stuff I went/am going to and couldn’t. So that’s already 1400+ tickets sold alone

Think about how much revenue could be made off of a full blown blockbuster true IMAX spectacle (and not even necessarily on film)

cannot believe we are so close to 500 signatures on the Chicago “true” #IMAX petition in a single week.

I personally am attending two sold out 70mm screenings on film at the Music Box this weekend (one is SLEEPING BEAUTY from 1959)

*I’d say please don’t feel ANY obligation to pay any money - it just so far it seems the only thing it does is amplify the post on their own website… I don’t super love any sort of ask for money on this….

visited the new MJR Troy #IMAX today and it was a real treat. the screen is approx 45x83 (per their manager)

regal city north imax is only about 30x50 (per online sources)

could IMMEDIATELY tell the difference in size
