I haven'e seen it, but from your description I'm sure I'd agree. I started to watch Top Gun 2 a few weeks ago - I lasted about 20 minutes before the constant predictable cliches got too much. Shame - I was looking forward to it.

James, I so agree with you - it drives me crazy (and the right and the left - and even the centre supporters are not scrutinised when they use these words). Andrew Neil did a good job on Richard Nice recently. I also hate it when interviewees say "look..." Yes, I am looking - I'm not an idiot!

I think he said "who?" didn't he?

We have an independent judiciary in this country. Robert Jenrick wants puppet judges.

The Conservative Party once believed in the rule of law and our shared British values - no longer.
Robert Jenrick holds up a judges wig like a puppet during his speech to the Conservative Party Conference.

Rightly or wrongly, It'll be seen as insensitive - wait a week, when it won't be headline news.

I agree Police only need a handful of Officers there, but the PA demo should be postponed out of respect for those that were (and are) affected by the Manchester attack - they'd also do their cause no harm at all - in fact the opposite.

Agreed, no one is surprised. What a shame, though. He has written some superb books, which I have recommended to many.

"We have a debt crisis so I've joined the party that was in power for 14 years and under whom debt massively grew."

"Commentator of the Year"

No-one is surprised, Matthew. Absolutely no-one.

Sorry James, I found the commentary cliched, hyped up, patronising and biased. However, yes, a great performance by England (Canada, a very good side themselves, were outplayed)- And who'd have thought, women play team sports other than football. Playing like girls? Just male footballers, it seems.

Very sad news

Ming Campbell was a dedicated public servant and a true Liberal giant.

His principled leadership opposing the Iraq War was a mark of his morality, courage and wisdom.

But more than that, he was an incredibly warm and caring friend and colleague.

We will miss him terribly.

Here a Tory / Reform alliance would have a majority - A country with Farage, Tice & Badenoch leading the Govt? What could possibly go wrong!? Personally, I think the system rejected in a referendum is best - where voters choose 2nd, 3rd, etc choices. Extremist parties would get few 2nd choices

Trump at the UN:

"I look at London where you have a terrible mayor... Now they want to go to Sharia law."

This is entirely false. London Mayor Sadiq Khan is politically moderate and has never ever called for Sharia law.

This is Islamophobic propaganda and a bigoted attack on Khan.

If only the other party leaders had the courage to speak truth to power like this man, we'd undergo a period of turmoil, but we would eventually silence the bully and be stronger as a result.

I am so sorry(for you and the rest of us) that around 75 million Americans (if we can believe the election wasn't fixed) thought differently- and thinking was not something indulged in by most of them. Similarly, I want the rest of the world to know I didn't vote for Brexit.

Thank you for saying this. I read this this morning and I thought "there's an elephant in the room" here - exactly what you have said. When is this nonsense going to stop? Among politicians atm only Ed Davey is making any sense. And possibly the Green Party
chimart.bsky.social
I don't think we need to worry, our PM, and fellow Labour Party leader, will be right there putting him right in support of his close colleague.
chimart.bsky.social
Agree completely. How much I've missed SMH over the Summer. If you haven't caught up with this yet - IMO, the best thing on the radio atm - and that's even when "The News Quiz" is currently on. Stewart Lee on next week, too.

Proof that Boris Johnson is an arse (excuse my Latin).

My thoughts exactly. Starmer should be using the State Visit to tell Trump a few "home truths" (and then resign if he has to); not spend any more on security than he would for any other visiting head of state; expose Trump to the protests against him. I am sure none of these will happen.

My dad told me: "You don't learn anything the second time you get kicked by a horse"

Peter Mandelson has been sacked for the third time.

Isn't it time politicians learned the risks of chumming around with a bunch of squalid billionaires?

This is vile. Local guy speaks to Sky News about the impact of asylum seekers protests. Watch what happens and share widely

I disagree with Farage and pretty much everything he says. I believe he is evil and has done great harm to this country. But on this one, I agree with him. A disgraceful thing for Brand to say. Whatever happened to, "When the go low, we go high."?

Thank you all - we saw you first as The OCB in Farnham in 1980(?). I then rediscovered you after buying a Cooking Vinyl compilation in 1993. You have given us 32 years of superb music and memories. It's been wonderful.
