Horrified to hear of the Manchester Synagogue attack on Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish year.

My thoughts are with the victims, their loved ones and the emergency services. I have asked Northumbria Police to update me on how they ensure the safety of our Jewish residents.

At #MEFConnects Anti-Fraud 2025, I spoke about the need for public trust in data and tech with smishing (SMS phishing) and spoofing making consumer protection and authentication even more important. Technology is something we shape, and trust must be at its core.

On BBCNewsnight I spoke to the horrendous humanitarian suffering in Gaza and praised the Govt decision to recognise Palestine, particularly as a way of keeping a two state solution viable in the face of Israel's offensive in Gaza, and Israeli and settler action in the West Bank x.com/BBCNewsnight...

In @CommonsSITC, I asked if we raise medicine spend to the OECD average of 13%, as some are calling for, what impact this would have on the NHS.
Health Minister @zubirahmed said we need to invest more in innovative medicines, but acknowledged the solution is complex.

In CommonsSITC urgent inquiry I asked Merck about its $3bn restructuring and 6,000 job cuts.
Merck say they’re reallocating investment, not cutting. But with Januvia at $547 in US vs $45 in UK, questions remain on access, affordability & the UK’s plan for #lifesciences
