Real dandelions have almost fluffy looking petals that get darker at the center, with all of the greens at the bottom of the stem.
Both Minecraft dandelions have the greens in the middle of the stem, and neither really get the idea that they should be kinda spiky across.

I wasn't necessarily planning on overhauling the dandelions in the overworld, but I kinda think they'd look better if they looked something like this.

I had an idea for a Minecraft pack to change all the flowers. The left would be variants you can find in the overworld (Jappa texture, and the original programmer art with the modern palette) and the right would be the item form (1 flower, stack of several flowers makes a boquet)
