CBO finds that DOGE failed to achieve measurable savings in March.

At first glance, spending fell $38B (7%) compared to last year. But March began on a Saturday so payments that normally go out in March went out in Feb

After adjusting, spending *rose* $45B (8%) compared to March 24.

And yes, I do realize that Stranger In A Strange Land has misogynistic themes - my interpretation was always that this was highlighting these themes and portraying women as equals and it is the contrast with societal norms at the time that made it powerful. The sexism was on full display on purpose.

I just learned that Musk is calling his X AI bot Grok and it made me gag on my coffee. SIASL is a book with strong feminist and socialist themes. Heinlein was ahead of his time and this just proves once again that Musk doesn’t grok the assignment.

Watching a David lynch documentary and realizing that the would likely be cured if we could all just take a break from our phone prisons to with our fingers and sit in a mud puddle with our friends.

Devastating for scientists and their research, and everyone who benefits from that research.

I’m not sure if everyone outside academia is aware that a delay or “pause” in grant funding often means the researchers themselves are lost from the field, along with their expertise.
NIH appears to have canceled/postponed all of its study sections—the independent review panels that approve federal grants for health research.

Such grants fund the work/salaries of 300k people at more than 2,500 institutions
All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.

Stan Kroenke (Rams owner) is worth almost 18 billion dollars. That is 18,000 million dollars. He’s donating 1 million to the fire relief for the city that supports his team. That is like me donating $10 based on my salary. Stop glorifying the bare minimum from the ones who have everything.
