Hello, these pieces of interesting art are still available and I really want more people to know about them and be on board. Also buying them would help immensely and prove your bonafides #bonafides

I honestly can’t bring myself to read this but I do think it’s very important for people in the US to remember that this is happening right now because of our government.

Imagine decimating the very idea of community by strangling local authorities, then blaming civil decline on the very people who are responsible for keeping those communities alive. Those people were out in their high street. Supporting businesses that cater their needs

Ladies and gentlepuffins we are floating in space.
One small step for puffin, one giant leap for puffinkind, with more Jill McDonald joy for my Sputnik Sweethearts.
Colourful cartoon cover of a 1968 Puffin Post magazine, in which a pink space rocket emits fierce fiery jets of flame from three booster rockets which are powering it.
The rocket is patterned in black flowers and orange pink and yellow zigzags speeds through a black starry sky with a big shiny sliver satellite spinning through space.
The rocket is crewed by three puffins in yellow space suits sitting at porthole windows and three on space walks outside tethered to the rocket by squiggly blue cables.
Above it, another rocket, this one striped red and yellow zooms across bearing the title Puffin Post in white, hand drawn capital letters outlined in black.
The style of the illustration is very much 1960s psychedelia for primary children and it gives a real sense of an unfolding scene in motion

I know statistics are poorly understood and are misused. But facts matter

Between the 1991, 2001, 2011 and 2021 Census *every* ethnic group in the UK has become *less* geographically segregated and *all* groups, majority and minorities, are more likely to interact with people not like them

I said ‘element’ a lot but I’m still ok with what I said

The first ever live show I ever possibly went to, an an actual memory, was the sooty show with Matthew when I was about three. I remember getting a little ice cream pot with a little wooden spoon in the lid

I think there’s also an element with being autistic where I never really get over things, I’m constantly processing, I was fully formed quite early and though things change, certain elements of the past are still so vivid. An element of haunting

I know I have someone of an audience of British xennial people of my specific generation who have similar references and feelings about these things. I do want my art ultimately to transcend all that specificity, but I also accept that I’m the age I am and who I am and some of us share these things
chloecumming.bsky.social
And though I try to ration the pop culture references because that’s not exactly what I want my art to be, I also allow myself to be attached to the things I’m attached to, explore them and be open about it
chloecumming.bsky.social
And watching it with her, I appreciated far more how good it was, its unique comfortingness, how good Matthew was, and the strange traditions of puppetry and these connections to puppets

So the Sooty Show is a thing from my own childhood. But it’s doubly resonant because my daughter absolutely loved it when she was little and watched far more of it on YouTube than I ever did.

Imagine missing just how much return on investment the arts bring. Imagine being that wilfully ignorant. Nothing makes your country seem cool, vibrant and successful like a thriving arts scene.

So, the plan is to cut English, the arts, and sociology - the degrees that actually study culture - while on another part of your platform claiming to “defend” British culture.

It’s performance nationalism with a reading age of seven.
Badenoch: Curb students taking 'rip-off' degrees such as English
The performing arts, sociology and anthropology are among the subjects the Conservatives would like to cut

feels like yet again time to mention that the *videogames* industry (that's a creative industry, which people do creative degrees in) brings in more than twice the amount to the British economy as the fishing and steel industries *combined*

I cannot understand what these people think the purpose of human life is?

It is *not* "pursue joy, deal justly, love well, try to understand as much and see as much of this beautiful world and of the deepness, richness and variety of human culture and experience as you can before you die"?

How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.
