It is surprisingly easy to get someone's personal information off the internet. It wasn't that long ago that a group of Facebook sleuths tracked down Luka Magnotta, a notorious killer, just based on the content he posted online.

I am not shy when it comes to posting myself on the internet. That being said, I definitely get a lot of creepy messages from sketchy accounts on the daily. Unfortunately, this is a universal experience for anyone woman who puts themselves out there on the internet.

The internet provides a certain level of anonymity. The ability to hid behind a screen gives people the courage to say nasty things to others that they would never say in real life. Some people live to rage bait, aka post offensive content with the sole purpose of making others angry.

With the rise of AI use, it adds new challenges for woman influencers online. I remember one instance where a woman TikToker had deepfaked nude images of her spread around online. She made a video addressing the situation where she was very upset that people were spreading fake, lewd images of her.

The internet can be a rough place to exist as a woman. It seems like you can say one thing as a man and get a lot of support for it, but if you say the same thing as a woman you are automatically met with tons of backlash. This happens to a lot of women in the YouTube commentary sphere.

I don't think gender has too big of an impact on the way people vote. Most people who vote are not well educated in politics and only tend to vote for the person representing the party they like, regardless of the individual. I'm sure women candidates are face much more intense scrutiny though.

I'm sure being a women in the senate is tough. You are already at a disadvantage being that you are the minority, but politicians are also not known for being the most moral people out there. I'm sure they hear lots of snarky comments all day, every day.

Social media tries to sell the idea of the "perfect working woman". You must be a clean girl who wakes up at 5:30am every morning before work. Then you must have an extremely lucrative career but also enough time to practice self care. It is an unrelateable lifestyle for most.

Many MLM companies will prey on women by promoting the idea of "Girlbossing". They reel you in with promises of owning your own business and selling a product. However, it is just a pyramid structure that relies on you selling the "idea" of girlbossing to other vulnerable woman.

An interesting example of an anti-natal policy is the one-child policy in China. This was put in place to discourage having children to curb China's rapid population growth, however they are still feeling the side effects today. The sex ratio is unbalanced due to the preference to only have a son.

It's crazy how far companies will go to snuff out unions. Starbucks is infamous for their terrible policies surrounding units. It is like they don't want to give their employees a voice on what happens in their workplace. I knew someone who worked at Starbucks, and she hated how corporate it was.

The glass escalator definitely rings true for some big companies. Sometimes they're brands that are catered to women with a mainly women demographic and the CEO is a man. Victoria Secret is one great example. What does a man know about women's bra and underwear?

It can hard for a women in the workplace sometimes. Especially since all these allegations came out against big company men, such as Dan Schneider. It is pretty common for women to face harassment in the workplace. Im glad we're starting to shine a light on some of their stories.

Jobs that require emotional labor tend to be customer service jobs. Consequently, these jobs are mostly seen as "women's work" and get paid less. Emotional labor is far more valuable than people think. It is not easy to put on a smile and tend to customers all day.

There are many examples of gendered job segregation in the medical field. Men are expected to be doctors, and women are expected to be nurses. There's been in increase in women becoming more dominant in STEM careers that used to be mainly men.

Japan is one country facing a serious birth-rate crisis right now. They are facing low birth rates, high death rates, and a staggering low amount of marriages. There's also a high amount of men who report feeling very lonely and never dating, becoming shut ins.

Same-sex couples may take on traditional roles such as top or bottom when it comes to sex, but they seem to split gendered housework down the middle. This is because in a same-sex relationship, there is no set "man" or "woman". Both partners are expected to adopt characteristics of both!

Outsourcing takes advantage of minorities and those living in poverty. Most cleaning jobs and childcare jobs are incredibly underpaid and usually worked by migrant workers. It's easier for well-off families to manage the second-shift because they can just pay someone to do these duties for them.

We live in a culture that puts a lot of emphasis of working. Most people have to work crazy hours just to afford the cost of living. I can't imagine having to work all day, then have to come home to second-shift duties AND a child. I think that's why people are reluctant to have kids nowadays.
April 14, 2025 at 2:17 AM
I just saw a video online of a wife ranting about her secondshift duties and how her husband doesn't help with things like unloading the dishwasher. I feel this sometimes in my household, where I feel like I'm the only one who takes the initiative to do simple chores.

There has been a spike in women using self-objectification as a form of empowerment. Take OF models for example. They capitalize off of self-objectification and being in control of their own sexuality for monetization.

Hook-up culture has led to an increase of victim-blaming language used in cases of sexual assault. There's always someone saying "Well what were they wearing" or "how much did they have to drink". Hook-up culture has perpetuated this idea that everyone is looking for casual sex all the time.

It really is crazy how prevalent colorism is on the Internet. It is very prevalent in the Kpop industry. Idols will wear makeup to make their skin appear lighter and idols that are darker often receive intense scrutiny from their dedicated fans.

I definitely think putting sex education programs in schools is important. Sex, the body, and how our reproductive organs work are very important parts of being human. Educating people about these topics promotes safer sex practices.

Hookup culture has definitely been normalized due to increased use of dating apps. Apps like Tinder particularly market themselves as a casual dating app. It's usually pretty hard to find people who are seeking serious relationships on these dating apps.
