Everywhere he looked, there was yet another delightful detail to take in: from the the subtle redness behind his ears to Katsuki’s smooth, rounded cheeks. Strangely, in the moment, even Katsuki’s familiar scent seemed more pleasant.

Katsuki remained obstinate the the end, looking past the camera as Fuyumi snapped a shot. As the flash went off, Shoto could not help but look to the omega at his side.

“Tch.” With a sneer, Katsuki readily made his displeasure known.

"Just one," With a sweet smile, Fuyumi lifted her camera. "You will thank me later."

The alpha sucked in a breath. In the crowded space, Katsuki’s proximity had gone unnoticed. It was no coincidence, Shoto was sure of it. Most likely, the omega had been coaxed forward by his mother.

At some point, Shoto heard his sister’s voice cut through the noise. "Hold still! The both of you!"

All too soon, the omega found himself. With reddened cheeks, his nose scrunched in distaste.
Then, with a huff, the omega turned away.

The omega held onto his hat as his linen dress billowed in the breeze. With his form illuminated by the late afternoon sun, Katsuki’s eyes twinkled as he gazed upon the alpha.

And in that same breath, Shoto saw the omega differently too. Temporarily, the omega was not an issue to sidestep or tolerate. Rather, in that particular moment, Katsuki looked quite pretty.

Such an expression had knocked the air out of the alpha. For a second, it seemed like Katsuki had forgotten to hate him. Shoto was not his adversary, but something else entirely.

Of course, Katsuki was not cheering. Most likely, the omega had spent the entire match hoping Shoto would fall from his horse. And yet, in spite of his ill will, with widened eyes and parted lips, Katsuki regarded Shoto with pure unfiltered awe.

By divine intervention, in that very moment, his eyes once again found Katsuki.

Shoto sat high in the saddle. Still gripping the mallet, the alpha’s chest heaved from the final sprint. In the heat of victory, the sound of applause was overwhelming. And yet, the alpha heard none of it.

The alpha tracked the ball, gauging the angle. When he dropped low, his swing was tight and clean. In an instant, the mallet cracked against the ball with a satisfying thwack. Cutting a perfect line across the turf, the ball sailed straight between the goal posts.

Shoto had no choice but to score. The game was nearing its end and the teams were tied. For the alpha, a loss was unacceptable. Polo was no mere sport; it was an unspoken contest of bloodlines.

At once, Todoroki leaned forward in the saddle, heels nudging into the mare’s sides. The horse surged forward as Shoto’s focus dialed in. The ball bounced across the field eager to be taken. In that moment, everything else fell to wayside: the noise, the sun, and even Katsuki’s ire.

With a whistle, Shoto was brought back to the moment. The ball was back in play.
