Yeah, I agree from a production standpoint it would make sense. But clearly they think the money is in those original characters, plus there is likely a secondary aim to replace Radcliffe, Watson etc in the public consciousness.

False binary IMO - any potential sequel would probably be the same story with the Potter children vs "Somehow, Voldemort returned". So a new adaptation is... marginally less bad in theory?

Not sure I agree there at all- SW is clearly good vs evil, ST was always about nuances - apparent enemies becoming friends through dialogue and mutual understanding.

I remember Simon Pegg proudly talking about how he consulted Trek wiki Memory Alpha for technical details when writing the script for Star Trek Beyond, which explained a lot.

I honestly really liked the first Hobbit, because it was recognisably the source material, albeit with some unnecessary additions. Then part two shits the bed and part 3 throws the shitty bed off a cliff.
I think I twice attempted to watch Fantastic Beasts and twice fell asleep.

So many ways this film could easily have been Studio Noted into a complete disaster, but it's miraculously note-perfect.
The real genius is the way it treats Justin Long's geeky teen fan character - mocking would have been so easy, yet the fans become as much heroes as the cast.

I think it's a riff on something Obama said about Trump - how he really thought he was better for the country than McCain or Romney, but he didn't fear for the future of the Republic if they had won.
