The great tit ( Parus major ) has a wide distribution across much of Eurasia . It can be found across all of Europe except fpr Iceland and northern Scandinavia , including numerous Mediterranean islands .
The great tit occupies a range of habitats . It is most commonly found in open decidious woodland, mixed forests, forest edges and gardens.

I do a comic about ornithological vocabulary for every issue of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology's wonderful Living Bird magazine. Here's the latest one, featuring the American Bittern.

A three-panel comic. The first panel is a scrap from a dictionary that says crypsis, noun: patterning or coloration that allows a bird to remain concealed by blending in to its environment. In panel 2, labeled effective crypsis, an american bittern blends in with a marsh full of tall plants. In panel 2, labeled ineffective crypsis, an american bittern fails to blend in among some short plants, next to a wet floor sign, and behind a stop sign.

The magnificent dead trees of Deadvlei contrast against a towering red dune, clothed in warm twilight that is so special in Namibia. A surreal, uniquely beautiful scene, so typical of this amazing country!

The deeply contorted lands of Namibia give rise to some truly unusual and otherworldly landscapes. This particular evening, fierce winds were blowing, and the combination of twilight and windblown dust blessed us with exceptional light, transforming these strange lands into the surreal.

The dunes in Namibia's Sossusvlei are all sand, except this one, and the beautiful interplay of the protruding rocks and textured sand comes to its full expression when clothed in dusk's soft, warm twilight.

The quality of light in Namibia is like none I have encountered anywhere else. It transforms Namibia's unique, at times surreal, landscapes into a world of dreams. A world of layers, punctuated by beautiful acacia trees, is painted in magical light which brings out the hidden, rich colors and textures of distant mountains.⁠

Este papamoscas cerrojillo , fué fotografiado el pasado viernes en mi finca de O Xuncal . Es una rareza , ya que hace dos semanas que los papamoscas iniciaron su viaje migratorio a sus cuarteles de invierno .
Este ejemplar , no ha querido marcharse , porque está en un sitio muy favorable , con buena temperatura, tranquilo y con abundantes insectos voladores ( la finca está junto al Río Cabe) .
Pero yo creo que al haber enfriado mucho la temperatura nocturna ( +7 grados esta noche pasada ) ya tiene que partir sin demora .
