Mostly boardgame moments from IRL group...I'm here to follow posts from other boardgame hobbyist and creators.
Sunday is Duel-day.

2p-only games started with Caesar!

Moved onto Watergate to try and take down a modern-day wannabe dictator.

Surprise hit was Kelp: Shark vs Octopus

Beautiful thematic game of underwater cat & mouse.

Octopus uses deck-building engine

Shark uses bag draw & dice-placement

Yeah, it started out years ago as a Discord app that you needed to run slash commands on.

Now it's got a full button driven UX with chat channels and feedback from the Bot which acts as game manager.

If you're interested lmk and I'll host a learning game

Red Dawn: The Boardgame?
WOLVERINES!

Still got my copy of Fortress America 40nyrs later, although the d8 and d10 probably got scavenged by my 13 y.o. self looking for D&D dice.

Bonus - check out the Saddam impersonator on the cover

You know it's a gamer's metal collection when you see Bolt Thrower!

The sludgy grinding was perfect pairing for the 40k album art

New addition to "My Little..." series

"My Little Thunder Road" immediately sprung to mind

It arrived in US warehouses last week according to updates

Hopefully it'll be landing with a thud on the doorstep in August

I'm sure there's going to be a comparison to Ankh components at some point...the new minis are sharp...I just wonder how all that plastic will fit on the board for battle!

In anticipation of the new & very monolithic Kemet: Rise of the Gods, I was able to get Blood & Sand editon to the table.

I forgot how tense the end-game scoring can be with this "knife-fight-in-a-phone-booth".

Last round had 3 out of 5 players clashing to the last.

You should check out a tomato seed catalog for inspiration...they have some interesting names that you could twist

Caught this weird "food was amazing" review scroll by on a link to his game.

That's pathetic...I know all the "reviews" are garbage but he's so lazy that this review appears as first one

I'm not a boardgame designer but I've dabbled in lots of "ideas" over the years.

Looking at my shelf I'm not surprised with the results

Had some last-minute cancellations for #gamenight that knocked player count down to 2.

Brought the old-school classic Star Realms as a backup along with lane-dueler Riftforce.

Both games were new to my #boardgame opponent but he loved them immediately.

Love that RiftForce is on Board Game Arena!

We have new players in the #boardgames group so I've been bringing classics to the table

Last week was Cyclades, this week Bloodrage.

The painted Monsters were a new addition from the last play.

I deliberately drafted the Fire & Frost Giant twins just for the photo op.

Surprisingly they won it.

Sunday was first opportunity since PAX to get the #boardgame group together.

Wanted to get a troops-on-a-map game to the table that was streamlined without fiddly rules.

Finished painting the creature minis for Cyclades last month. Major boost to table presence.

Happy to announce that Rally The Troops has intuitive implementations of 2p and 3p games that are hard to get to the table IRL.

Maria is what brought me to RtT but playing Fort Circle titles like Votes for Women and Shores of Tripoli has me hooked.

Great 2 player titles.

Monster Vegan

Discovered this hip horror-tiki themed restaurant with bar that plays schlocky late-night creature feature clips on loop and serves killer drinks in skulls.

Food is also solid but theme and atmosphere just screamed one-of-a-kind experience.

A friend introduced our PAX Unplugged group to Paperback. He has just picked up the 2nd edition.

boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/14...

Fun deck-building race to score the most points (awarded as cards of reimagined pulp fiction covers).

Here's one player frustratingly going to elementary school mode

Biggest hit of PAX Unplugged for breezy, quick "while we're waiting for your friends to find us in the gaming hall" game was Flip 7.

Once our group formed up we still played several rounds of this push-your-luck convention staple.

1st annual PAX Unplugged Board Game Hot Takes podcast-inspired Dune Imperium Uprising 6 player team mode game.

3+ hours the "good guys" pulled off a 24-22 victory over the Emporer's forces of Law and Order.

Thanks to Ted(tksc4) for making it happen.

Courtisans

Plays up to 5.

Simple rules (Draw 3 cards. Play 1 to your tableau, play 1 to rival's tableau and play 1 to the Court...as positive or negative).

Beautiful big cards with flashes of foil.

Doesn't drag or outstay it's welcome

With Halloween festivities and the US Election hitting back-to-back getting a weekly game night group assembled has been a challenge.

Plus there's the problem of my latest "games-to-try" stack being commandeered by the laziest of cats.

Hoping soon to play of Joyride & compare to Thunder Road.

Gaming group is shifting to more "filler"& "quick-to-teach" games with 4~5 players.

Play 3 then draw 3

Saw Su&Sd review of Courtesans boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/40... and gave it a go.

It was a hit

Watching people that thought it was too "simple" agonize over where to play card#3 was brilliant

I was the listener Tim mentioned that bought his copy of Arcs.

Wanted to let him know it's got a happy home on my shelf and gets to the table regularly & getting my gaming group familiar with base game so we can tackle Campaign mode.

Plays good at 2, 3 &4p...just remove Farseer court card at 2p.
