Jeff Buckley died in 1997. But not before releasing an era-defining album titled “Grace” that features the most famous cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.”

Now, 30 years later, Amy Berg released “It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley,” an introspective look into the artist.

For the latest in Doors at Seven, I make sense of these figures, pulling back the curtain on the artists, albums and genres that defined my listening habits.

Morning read ☕️

My latest on Substack is a deep-dive into Geese’s “Getting Killed.”

It’s received widespread acclaim, so much so that I was skeptical. I’m here to say (belatedly) that this chaotic, hypnotic and anguish-filled project is that good.

🚨 New words from me! 🎶

Last month I started a Substack called Doors at Seven for those fellow music obsessives who care about the stories behind the music.

Today I published my latest, a pithy review of the Kendrick Lamar / SZA concert I went to recently:

Kendrick Lamar released a new surprise album “GNX” at noon on a Friday and I’m at work unable to focus after hearing the first song open with a mariachi singer.

Perfect way to introduce myself on Bluesky 🚨🚨
