Wildfires aren’t just getting bigger. They’re getting massively more expensive.

A new study shows the most destructive fires are happening more often, fueled by climate change, urban sprawl, and decades of fire suppression.

Wildfires are getting worse — and a lot more expensive for the rest of us.

"Not one acre" became a rallying cry against Utah Sen. Mike Lee's attempt to sell off millions of acres of public land for housing development.

The Trump admin has a similar proposal, with ~400k on the chopping block.

Will 'not one acre' carry over?

The Trump Team Is Still Eyeing Hundreds Of Thousands Acres Of Public Land For Housing
Will the administration’s ongoing push to open federal lands for housing development face the same public backlash that Sen. Mike Lee triggered?

“listening”, round 4

BREAKING: Sen. Mike Lee is STILL trying to sell off public land. He just released a FOURTH version of his reconciliation language, and it keeps getting worse. It doesn't look like this version has been reviewed by the parliamentarian, but he's still trying.

it puts more lands at risk of potential sale...but the ~3 million acre cap hasn't changed
chrisdangelo.bsky.social
the amendment (updated text released over the weekend) doesn't authorize additional land sales....it expands the pool of eligible land they can draw from to hit ~3 million acre target

In which I try to clear up the confusion about public lands acreage for sale in the Senate's latest budget reconciliation bill. Spoiler: It's not 294 million, but it's still atrocious. open.substack.com/pub/landdesk...

you’ll get no argument from me on that (i run a substack that is almost exclusively focused on aggressively covering threats to the public domain, including Lee’s latest attack)…but accuracy on this is important
chrisdangelo.bsky.social
also, if Trump rolls back national monuments, those lands would become part of the pool of lands open for potential sale, but a monument rollback wouldn’t simply make 13.5 million acres available for purchase…again, the bill caps lands to be sold ~3 million
chrisdangelo.bsky.social
hi Heather. The bill does not authorize the sale of 258M acres over 5 years….it mandates the sale of ~3M acres over 5 years…the 258M figure (which keeps changing) is lands that are eligible for potential inclusion

yes, this sets a dangerous precedent…but right now, the cap is 3M acres
chrisdangelo.bsky.social
today — w/ Senate Republicans having moved to force as much as 3.2M acres of public lands to be sold off to developers — would be a really great time to support our investigative public lands reporting
