Coyote on the trail camera under my back deck. I’ve never heard or seen any in the years I’ve been there. Just another reason not to let your cats roam outside and your dogs off leash while hiking. 🐺

It’s October 3rd. So here’s some Mean Girls inspired cartoons about dinosaurs I’ve made.

The Red Phalarope that was in the middle of DC this past week. One of the few sexually dimorphic birds where females are the ones who exhibit display colors. 🪶

Speedpainted Zavecephale, the newly described pachycephslosaur from Mongolia. It was a juvenile when it died but its dome was fully formed. #paleoart #dinosaur #Zavacephale #watercolor

I think the skeletals were done by Jason Poole and yeah Yutyrannus is a decent model for the more fragmentary Dryptosayrus. It’s a more completely known similarly sized non-tyrannosaurid tyrannosauroid. It’s not a direct copy though.

After several years of forgetting I FINALLY remembered to bring my own dinosaur stamp for the kids’ Dino park passports. I’ve had this thing since I was like 4. Payoff.

I also always liked how they kept space for local state dinosaurs, like Dryptosayrus and Hadrosaurus.

I appreciate their effort to include feathered dinosaur animatronics with REAL feathers attached. The elements were not kind to them sadly.

Sad to learn that Mark Norell passed away. His work in paleontology had a HUGE influence on me growing up going to the American Museum of Natural History in New York. I consider myself lucky to have gotten to speak with him once at an AMNH holiday party.

I am opposed to AI products and services because of the extra power they require... IN A CLIMATE CRISIS. I am opposed to AI results - texts and illustrations - because they've been created unethically, via theft and non-consensual use of the work of others. Share if you agree.

Another Japan bird photo. I watched this Large-billed Crow catch this cicada out of the air, remove its wings, then gulp down the rest. 🪶
