And if it wasn’t clear, I’m really grateful for your efforts to hold space and model conversation where participants can hold differing views and have that be okay.

6/6 I just wonder if our whole approach is misguided because we keep returning to dogmas and certainty to build our faith on. What if we just accepted that God and most everything associated is a grand mystery? How would that change how we approach our lives and other people?

5/6 Gordon Hinckley is famous for the "it's all true or it's all false" stance. Unfortunately, that is a very brittle stance and only takes one contradiction for everything to fall over. For example, if you don't believe the Adam/Eve story as historical, then there is no need for Jesus to save.

4/6 If we can easily give grace to the Bible for historical issues and not let that get in the way of its usefulness, should we not let up on our stricter stances that lets the BoM be more useful to more people who don't agree with the dogmatic stances?

3/6 Sure, Dallin Oaks and others say evidence is not the way, but truthfully, I don't believe prayer is as reliable as he thinks either because that is subjective. And I've seen just as many or more people get the 'no' answer or no answer at all in relation to the Moroni 10 challenge.

2/6 So regardless of the official church position on BoM historicity, should the church not rather adopt a position that allows a much bigger tent? If people want to believe the BoM is 19th century fiction and still engage, should that not still be celebrated and validated and allowed?

1/6 At the end of the day, the church doesn't have the plates. I would also say the church also has a sorted past with truth telling as I believe has been highlighted multiple times by you guys.

You guys should try to get Jeff Strong on. He did an interview with Faith Matters about his time as missions president in Arkansas. His mission was a test bed for a new form of service missionaries.

It hit me one day that most temple attendees in Utah lied on their temple recommend interviews when asked: Do you support or promote any teachings, practices, or doctrine contrary to those of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

Your comment about Jacob Hansen was fascinating. It just goes to show that even he negotiates with this faith. If he’d leave because the prophet started allowing civil gay marriage, then does he really believe that the prophet is led by God? Great discussion.

Funny how they keep talking about Jesus, but never push to post his words on the walls. But, that would probably be counterproductive since he was very interested in bringing in the stranger and vulnerable.

That dude must be listening to health influencers and not scientists. Of course they know that acid reflux can come from low acid levels and that abuse of things like tums and acid reducers can causes problems. That's not the only cause though.

My grandpa was a professor in the bio ag dept at BYU during McConkie era. Evolution caused quite a stir. It created this animosity between the science professors and the religious professors.

My biggest disappointment about the whole thing is that many other Christian leaders have publicly called out the wrongness and moral failings of the actions of MAGA and Trump. And here we are with sterile talks that lack any conviction or impact that come off completely deaf to real issues.
