Sure! I think you should be able to, but let me know if I need to loosen up the settings.

I'm not affiliated, but another VPP company is Renew Home (formerly Google's Nest Energy, and I think they merged with another company): www.renewhome.com

Smarter energy at home starts here. Renew Home empowers millions of people to save through their connected devices — and it all adds up for real impact

They seem to be growing the latter part of the business more recently, just make sure you know which part you're going to work on (again, depending on your preferences).

You might also want to look at Zipline (disclaimer: former employee). They use drones for delivery, both short-range for commerical deliveries (think Walmart and Chipotle), and long-range for medical supplies in remote areas of Africa.

I think there are a lot companies trying to solve "power for data centers", but I haven't looked much into them. That may or may not count as mission-neutral in your book.

My employer (Splight) isn't hiring right now, but we do something similar - there's redundancy in the grid infrastructure that you use for additional transmission capacity, as long as you can react quickly to an outage.

Heimdall Power and GridRaven both do Dynamic Line Rating (DLR) - basically, you can increase the amount of power through a transmission line based on the weather. This helps get more renewable energy onto the grid.

As a software engineer without any domain expertise, the area that felt like I could have the most impact (and also likely to find a job) was in the energy/electrical sector. I see somebody already mentioned Virtual Power Plants; another area you could look into is "Grid Enhancing Technologies"

Some general resources: ClimateDraft (jobs.climatedraft.org) and ClimateBase (climatebase.org/jobs) both have climate-focused job boards. Work On Climate (workonclimate.org) is another resource, but I haven't found them very useful.

The first rule of Fight Club 3 is: you do not write a Wikipedia synopsis about Fight Club 3

@chrissteller.bsky.social not sure if this was your image originally, but I copied it from you.

Titus Andronicus has a “making of” video for The Monitor, if you’re in to that sort of thing. (Not saying it deserves to make the list)
