Hi 👋 Librarian at the Internet Archive here.
Last week’s announcement that @archive.org is now a Federal Depository Library sparked some great questions—so we put together a new FAQ to explain what this means (and what it doesn’t). 👉 help.archive.org/help/federal...

📚🐍 It’s National Library Week. Could this be the last one?
As a librarian, I’m putting my energy into the #SaveIMLS movement. I shared my story & sent letters to my reps in Congress using the IMLS MATTERS site at imls-matters.github.io/imlsmatters/

Like many others I am dismayed by the effort to end IMLS. I know IMLS matters to so many people. I put together the following site to collect and share stories of how "IMLS matters" to people. Please consider submitting a story.

Confirmed DOGE is currently inside IMLS headquarters.
NEW — Keith Sonderling, Trump’s Deputy Secretary of Labor, has been named the Acting Director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), an agency source tells me. He’ll arrive tomorrow at their office with DOGE and their security detail.

It's quite clear that when forces come for the Archive/Wayback, they'll be swift and not met with much resistance at the federal level.
Don't tell my bosses I'll continue working for free until it's all worked out.

I've received IMLS grants. Had to put a sustainability plan together for every one of them. Never thought those plans would outlast IMLS.

🚧 What do "under construction" signs and bubble-gum-blowing Furbys tell us about digital preservation?
In the latest #VanishingCulture essay, writer @jdshadel.com explores the rise, fall, and cultural legacy of early Internet GIFs—and why they matter today.

I deleted the CNN app off my phone this morning ❌
I graduated high school in 1993 (👋 hello fellow olds). CNN was a constant on our HS tvs following the start of the Gulf War & the network’s wall-to-wall coverage. It was revolutionary.
I grew up thinking CNN = news 🗞️
Now I understand CNN = trash 🗑️
