I absolutely have conservative Republican friends. People I can talk to about politics and have honest debates with. What I don’t have is MAGA republican friends.

But journalism is in fact a practice, for that matter one that intersects with creative writing in the following sense: anyone who's taken a graduate course in nonfiction writing knows one of the primary modes of nonfiction writing is "journalistic."

How can that be? Because journalism is an ethos.
